Save the Date: March 4 Rally & City Council Meeting

We need you there so the city hears your voices.

When: Wednesday March 4, Rally @ 5:30, City Council Meeting @ 6:30

Where: Monterey Park City Hall, 320 W Newmark Ave, Monterey Park, CA 91754

Our Strategy for March 4 City Council Meeting

We retained Doug Carstens, a leading environmental and municipal law attorney, to develop a strategy for a citywide ban that minimizes community risk. Read his letter to the city council here. His recommendations:

  • Don't rely on ballot-only approach—it's risky and shifts responsibility to voters. Instead use ballot + ordinance, so that if ballot fails, ordinance will still protect the city against a data center

  • Adopt a citywide ordinance now that prohibits data centers of any size or type

  • Don't rush incomplete ballot language to meet June deadline

  • Remove specific ballot language loopholes that would allow for data center development in the city

  • Ignore HMC's lawsuit threats since they are meritless

NO DATA CENTER!

Monterey Park residents deserve transparency, responsible planning, and development that truly serves our community. The proposed data center would significantly increase energy use, strain public infrastructure, and bring long-term environmental and quality-of-life impacts. The city has pushed this project forward without a full Environmental Impact Report and with minimal public outreach.

Most residents only learned about this project after it was already in motion. Since then, community members have organized, spoken out, and asked for answers. We still don’t have the information, clarity, or public process that this level of development requires.

This site exists to help residents stay informed, share verified information, and take action. Monterey Park deserves thoughtful, community-centered development, not a rushed high-impact project pushed forward without meaningful review.

Awaiting the Moratorium on Data Centers

The City of Monterey Park will consider a permanent moratorium on data centers within the next 45 days from the January 21st council meeting. The deadline is March 7. This means that we can expect a public hearing at one of the two upcoming council meetings. Please save the dates. You’re more than welcome to attend and provide general public comment even if the moratorium does not come up at the meeting. We need to keep applying pressure and remind them that the community does not want any data centers:

  • Wednesday, February 18 - 6:30 PM

  • Wednesday, March 4 - 6:30 PM

Monterey Park Council Meetings are held at the City Hall.

Address: 320 W Newmark Ave, Monterey Park, CA 91754

The Monterey Park City Council will vote on a proposal for a 247,000-square-foot data center at 1977 Saturn Avenue. The project includes 24 diesel generators, a new Edison substation, demolition of existing buildings, and will use three times the amount of electricity as the entire city.
